Lenses or Glasses
Permalink

Hi all,

I have read a lot of the posts on x-linking, thanks for the good info you have gathered hear.

2 weeks from now Iím going to Dresden to be x-linked in my right eye.

I have read the post OP posts and found a lot of info, but as you all know each situation is unique in KC, so I found my self wondering about glasses and lenses.

I was diagnosed with KC 2 months ago, last month I want to Dresden to check the premises and staff there.

My conclusion was good, so I decided to run the procedure and follow the recommendation of DR. Raidskup-wolf, who check me at Dresden, to run the procedure at the right eye only for now, and as soon as possible!

Until now I was fixing my vision with glasses, and I was suggested to start using hard lenses.

I want to Dresden a week after first fitting, and in the middle of getting used to them.

I paused everything and went to Dresden and then decided to run the OP.

So I left a side my hard lenses.

Now Iím struggling with the question, what to do after the OP?

Should I use glasses/Hard lenses on my left eye only, until the right eye cornea is stabilized?

My left eye has a 49 diopeter, and diagnosed as KC type 1.

any recommendation, personal experience will be welcomed.

English is not my native language, so I apologize for any mistakes in my writing

Thanks

Rani

Rani... good to met you and welcome!

First of all don't worry about your english... I did not think  at all that your first language was not English!

I can not stress the following point enough... Rani, you have been put on the right path, call it divine intervention or what ever else, but you are very very lucky, X Linking is best done as early as possible, level one KC is a dream to have! Level 3 can be made more regular... if they caught your KC later it would have been too late for the most part...

You will avoid everything there is to avoid when it comes to hard lenses and from that reduce the chance of a transplant taking place, if you get your level 1 eye done at some point, as Hard lenses can accerlate to some extend the chance of you having a transplant.

Beleive me, you have come across some good Dr's to put you on this path, In Germany they are the best in the world and I have met many Dr's over the years to know, that there are a lot of seedy, hard lens pushing Dr's who just see you as a bag off gold when you walk in to their office!! This medical loop can be broken with the use of X Linking.

I would say if you can see ok with the one eye not getting X Linking then just don't wear you lens, it depends on how much you can see from it though.

There is an good chance that you may just need to wear more regular contact lens or just normal glasses for the eye your getting treated for with X Linking.

All the best mate

Rani,
do nothing for 4-5 months most op, no lenses! You can use your old glasses. Then, after 6-9 months you may try, if you wish, lenses. But in your place I'd opt for glasses only, or nothing.
Best,
Y.

Quintrix,
I have kc level 1+ on my left eye, the right eye is 3-, and this is the leveling as was diagnosed in Dresden.
I also was had my cup of greedy dr's who only wanted only my credit card details ,for the last 6 years, mean while my eye's site was deterioration.
I actually found out i have KC by accident, 6 month's ago i was in London for a course and i broke my glasses, so i looked for the first opto i could find, lucky for me it was a store on regent street London and after they didn't manage to fit me correctly and i thought they don't know what they are doing, so i have asked for my money back.
Then the store manager asked me to do one more test, cornea topography, and rest is history....

I do see 20/20 on my left eye with vision correction, do you think I should try to leave with out glasses?

thanks
Rani

Yarsky,

You said glasses or none, won't I damage my eyes with no vision fixing at all?

I can understand not to use lenses on my right eye which will be x-link, but what about the left one?

And then, what will i do with my glasses, change the right lenses to 0? Or should I leave the no. as is now?

thanks

Rani:smile

Rani,

If its level three on your worst eye and your getting that X linked then I think just wait until your cornea has fully recovered, which means you should wait for six months, as the flatterning effect could take that long... so its best to wait until things settle, it may even happen before six months, but to be sure I think wait for six months.

I think take your lens or your glasses if they correct you well enough, on your better eye, but for your worst eye, its best if you wait to see if you can get back in to better correction by glasses or soft lenses; it all depends on how regular your cornea becomes after it has been X Linked.

About your mild KC in your left eye... you may have to decide after you have got your bad eye X Linked, what to do about your better eye, if at all to have X Linking done to it at some point in the future, to get it more regular and get some more regression if at all possible, there is a good chance of a good out-come when its milder KC or, if you have KC where its in a good place on your cornea, to get that regression. Stopping KC going too far is the main thing.

Best of luck!
