I think once the world cup starts the streets will be empty in the UK!

Its got to be the one thing that brings the world together is the game of football!!!!!!!

I'm going to be glued to the TV to watch every match and everything else will come to a stop so that i can!

So if i don't reply to posts or PMs or emails or phone calls... you know why now!

Fortza Italia!
I'm from New Zealand and the one and only time we reached the World cup I was a just a teenager. So, now that I have travelled and have an extended Italian family (And I'm a Inter Milan supporter) I will be behind the Italian effort.
So Mr Quintrix you had better get your boys ready... and beating Jamaica dosn't count :),
At the last World cup when the Italian team was beaten by Korea my wife didn't talk for three days... believe me thats not going to happen again!!!! Doen't help that my brother's girlfriend is Korean... anyway...
Football is second only to the religion in Italy so the passion is there... all we need is... goals!!!!
So Quintrix get your track suit on and get out on the pitch... your team needs all the motivation it can get :)
May the best team lose (Brazil of course)... too the team that we all want to win. Which is of course ITALY!!!! :)

All the best mate,
Hari

Hello guys!

I support Ukrainain team. They were great in cualification games last year beating some strong teams like Dans, Turks and Greeks, if I remember correctly, and were qualified the first in Europe. I think they are strongly motivated. Mostly they are young but have some extremely strong and experienced players like Sheva and Andrij Voronin (plays in German champ). They are coached by a very good player in the past, Oleg Blohin, a winner of Golden Ball or Boot (I do not remeber exactely) in seventies when Dynamo (Kiev) won prestigeous European Cup Champ. He was a very fast, mostly left wing, striker. People adored him. However in the past Ukrainian National team was known for a disapointing performance in the most crucial moments. I hope this curse was taken away from them. We'll check it out this afternoon when they face the Spanish team in Leipzig.

oh my, oh my, oh my.... 0:2 after half time...

well it's 0:3...but they stand well nevertheless...first match in a world cup...I do not watch but I think they will not lose their spirit in the following but will grit their teeth...It looks like Sheva is completely blocked but Voronin does well...

Buy yourself an England football shirt and paint your face with red and white and you can support us, Yarsky!

I once saw footage of the Russian football team play once... it was when it was the former soviet union... what an unbeleivable team they where... they where playing like a machine that scores goals!

Anyway the score for England last night was two-nil to England. I think we have sent the Trinidadians packing!

We did use our secret weapon who is 6 foot 7 and a striker!

It could very well be Germany that England will be playing in the next stage! That should be a good game! They always are!

Good for England but I do not change colours that easy
And it's yet a long way ahead, huh?

PS. Just a note on a misconception that strikes me all the time. Soviet Union was not only Russians. It was "a union", artificial, unnatural, union of at least 15 different nations. Why all them should be called Russians? Well this is, from one hand, precisely the idea of J. Stalin (a Georgian himself) to select a one titular, central and "good", nation, an example for others, to rule in this way a simple mind of a terrified citizen. This way it worked inside. On the outside, the image USSR projected abroad was precisely that of "Russians".

Just as information, the ussr socker team in eighties was coached by Valeri Lobanovsky, the celebrity coach of Dynamo Kiev, a ukrainian team, and the ussr national team was mainly composed of the then players of Dynamo Kiev : Belanov, Protasov, Litovchenko, Zavarov, Yaremchuk, Yakovenko, Kuznetsov, Rats,...there were a couple of players from "Spartak" Moscou (Dassajev, Hidiatulin, Rodionov,...)and some other places like Georgia, Belarus,...So why do we call that team Russian? To call all other people from that pÔrt of the world Russians is to state that they were conquered, oprresed, annihilated as nations, depraved of their native habits, languages, etc. etc.etc. by the Russians...In part this is true: where you have oppression you immediately have some submission...So why continue to label those people Russians? To upset them more? I do not understand that attitude that I find even in France. One of the reasons may be that this attitude is in favour of Russia: an image of strong empire that strives to hold her rebelious people together. I am even sure that part of the media, for example in France, is owned by some Russian guys and they pay copiously to promote some bull**** in the minds of naive, cliche-bound western citizen...(Look nobody has a slightest intention to call the memebers of EU "The French" or "The German" or whatever...)

So when you call that "Russian team", "all that Russia", remember, you might be doing exactely as Stalin wanted you to do...

I hear you mate...

So it was very much an "Empire" which was being held together against people will... most people thought it was just one country mostly due to the media and propaganda (may be from both the west and east adding to this).

Anyway there is a long way to go in the football... but i think we have a least two games left to play... after which it all depends on how good a team plays on the day... even for the Brazilians!
