AFAIK how "bad" your vision is in terms of what you see (or don't) on an eye chart is not too much of a predictor of what type of vision can be achieved with a contact lens. With KC you never really know what contact lenses will do until you try them. Hope you have a good result!

Hi all!

Hope everyone's been well! Just wanted to give you an update and some quick questions: So I recently got scleral lenses, and with them, I see about 20/25 which is way better than what I use to see honestly. Everything is so vivid and colorful as well, and I can now notice many details that I use never to see. The only problem I still have is that there is some ghosting and halos around things I see on a screen such as a TV or a computer screen, phone screen, and the text on these screens as well is blurred/ghosted. My doctor told me that it could be astigmatism? She said to wear them for a week or so to see if they "settle in" as she said it. After that, if they still give me these ghosting issues that the will send them in and correct them. Does anyone have experience with something like this when they got their scleral lenses? Thanks, guys.

-James

Hi James,

I do not wear scleral lenses. But based on the various reports I've read from KC patients, ghosting is one of the most difficult visual problems for KC patients to overcome. Surprisingly, the optics of ghosting don't seem to be all that well understood. Or maybe, like so many things involving KC, there are multiple possible reasons for ghosting and it is hard to tell which one(s) are at work. Based on my experience with Kerasoft IC lenses, it was a change in the fit that largely eliminated ghosting. If the issue with your lenses is astigmatism, I think the doctor will be able to tell if it can be improved by over refracting using the phoropter (that big funky pair of "glasses" they use to prescribe glasses). If it is a fit issue, your doctors ability to improve things may come down to what trial lenses she has available. But ghosting may be something you have to live with. Hope your doctor is able to find a solution because ghosting is incredibly annoying even though you have good vision according to the eye test.
