Hello all,

New to this forum, how lovely to have found you all.

Two years ago I had a DALK in my left eye after suffering from KC for 4 years prior, unable to wear lenses because of severe allergens on the eye…. My stitches were taken out 18 months (to the day) after my operation because I could no longer work due to light sensitivity (I'm a graphic designer/ illustrator) and stratchy stitches.

Although my vision was bad before the operation, it improved drastically after. But then they took the stitches out… it's worse now than before the operation, having apparently wonked out of shaped. I might need another operation/ nip and tuck/ laser treatment for this?

I don't know what to do, I've not worked for a year now. I can barely stay on a computer for more than 15 minutes (I also broke my foot which has plagued me for three years preventing me from shop work) and can't support myself/ move on with my life. I'm depressed and lonely and feel like there's no hope left. I also keep bumping into doors…. I think my bifocal vision has suffered, I'm covered in bruises :(

One step forward five back.

It would be nice to see if anyone else is in the same/ similar position and what you're doing with yourself? (Especially job wise)

Sorry to hear of the ongoing and unpredictable troubles.

I do remember reading about a member called "tommy" who did Laser prk at the London Vision Clinic (after his Dalk surgery).

Your cornea thickness should be sufficient enough for this, after having a Dalk.

You could also try fittings for contact lenses, as another options too.

Dear Ludicrouseye, I'm glad you found the forum for some support & info. I don't know much about DALK. I just wanted to reach out to you! This is such a debilitating disease. For what it's worth, I met an optometrist on line from Britain. She has vast experience with fitting KCers. I am having trouble here in the US getting anyone to fit me because I had the CXL and now they freak out. CXL is not performed here. Anyway, she is very nice and open to email communication. Her advice got me fitted in CLs that are a huge step in the right direction. She might have some suggestions for you. For either fitting or local contacts for medical intervention. Hi, often the astigmatism does get worse after the stitches are removed. Some surgeons on the NHS will do laser on the graft if your vision is poor and contact lenses do not help. The laser is now available on the NHS. Talk to your GP or push the hospital you go to , to consider this option. There are lots of contact lens options which can be fitted on the top of a graft. Don't give up, you have plenty of options. I know it feels like an up hill struggle.

Thank you all for your replies. It's great to know there are others out there, able to give help, support and much needed advice.
I'm feeling a little better about my chances of regaining my sight. I suppose my follow up in a few weeks will determine what the outcome will be and what procedure the doctors think are best….
