Good day! My name is Alexandra and I'm from Russia. Suffer keratoconus more than two years, no operations are made. I wonder how much progress have experts in the field of genetics keratoconus and what stage is the development of keratoconus at the genetic level? Whether to apply the biodegradable lenses with stem cells for the treatment of keratoconus from the Institute of Sheffield and how soon? And can be modern medicine can offer me any other new methods of treatment, excluding cross linking, keraflex, intact rings, keratoplasty and a notch, because my eyesight is quite normal and would like to do less of a sacrifice and cure the disease conservative. Thank you.

I think you are referring to this news http://www.opticianonline.net/stem-cells-used-to-repair-cornea/

There is no indication on this for the use in KC. Its more likely for injured corneas due to burns and such things and melting and scarring, and with that to make the cornea more transparent. With KC there is a weakened cornea which bulges out ward.

The most conservative thing to try first is glasses and contact lenses. As KC advances you may need more complex contact lenses. The only known way to treat progression is via crosslinking the cornea.
