Hi Paix,

Its very refreshing to hear that your well informed and are doing pretty good... so good on you...

Keep writting you thoughts and share them with us... we are keen to know about them... I think Crosslinking (the "orginal" method) will become available in the US soon (although soon in eye care is a long time!) but i also think there is no incentive unlike in Europe where the health service is payed for by the government and they would like to get a definative answer to KC as much as possible, as its costs a lot of money for patients to be stuck in the medical loop, and so freeing people from this saves the government money and also helps the patient.

Anyway thank you very much about your very experiance, i am sure things will get better from here (BTW who did the intacs and where did you have it done?)... the detail and the things you say are very interesting for others... i hope the wavefront glasses goes well for you... and just pamper yourself while your waiting

All the best

Q-

My intacs were implanted by Dr. Jason Wang in Denver, Colorado. He trained with Dr. Mark Swanson in Mexico.

...and i'll like to know who trained the two Dr's you mentioned... now s/he must have experiance!

I have KC and had an intacs put in my right eye. My vision was 20/150 prior to surgery & now is about 20/40, but I have more difficulty seeing. The intacts seem to have cause my astigmatism to be more pronounced & and now I see three images out of my right eye. I used to see a faint image below the normal one, and I only noticed it if looking at a light or some thing dark on a white wall. Now the multiple vision is very pronounced. I had trouble with contacts - getting them in & out, as my eye seems to be small. I'm thinking of having the intacs taken out, but I'm a bit concered that the multiple vision will not go away & my poor vision will return. Has anyone had this problem & had the intacs removed?

Intacs are good, and with the new SK version the will be better for higher levels of keratoconus. However, everyone who has keratoconus knows that nothing is a cure all.
C3R (crosslinking) is the only treatment that stops things worsening and can be used in tandem with Intacs.
Finally there is a phakic lens implant for the higher levels of short sight.
I hope this helps

Hi csu, sorry to hear about that! I heard intacts are well if the cone is not too far gone. When it is ruther bad, what they do, as far as i understand, they only rise the periphery of the cornea, thus leaving the main refraction zone as damaged by the cone as before. That's just my natural understanding. If you see much better afer intacts having been placed, but with nevertheless multiple images, it may mean the effect I am talking about. Try to see your doc again, take the topgraphy. Compare it with what you had before placing the intacts. Read it, study it, see what have you got....Do that in any case! Keep us informed.
Regards,
Y.

Thanks for the comments & info. I did look into C3R today and it looks interesting, but out of my price range for the moment & other than change with the intacs, the KC has not seems to gotten any worse over the last several years. I did look at the maps before & after, and while my right eye does look flatter, it still has the astigmatism(s). I'm going to try some Izon glasses to see if they help any before I make a desision about further surgery or an attempt to retry contacts.
