MyJourneyWithKeratoconus,

Patients are "voting with their feet" and are traveling abroad. to get the best treatment they can get, not only with crosslinking but also with proven crosslinking machines, and for the other options not available in the US which can be combined with crosslinking making many more chances for the patient to reclaim their vision.

Having said that, a few months back, I was reading an article which was on Dr Donnenfeld http://www.lasikli.com/ offering crosslinking under "informed consent" as there is enough data from abroad which shows this is the way to go (as part of a study) for those where Crosslinking is indicated.

I have kc and didnt know this forum existed. Who did your cxl. I am thinking about getting a consult with dr.shulting. I had an expensive consult with an expert and the focus was on money. Any questions were frowned upon.

Your comment that an asst did the crosslinking leads me to believe that the person I consulted with is the person whose office you went to. When I had my consult the dr was cold and I noticed that the assts did all the work. It seems that he is there in name only. I hope you will come back and give some clues about who u saw.

Other Symptoms

"In addition to the double vision, both of my eyes are almost constantly dry."

I am about 2 years post epi-off crosslinking Topo PRK and have had dry eye in my left eye, my worst eye, ever since the surgery. I recently started taking Restasis and itís the best thing to happen to me since the getting some of my vision back. I have allergies to dust mites, cats, ragweed, and have never been able to breathe correctly out of left nostril, the bad side. When I started taking Restasis the next morning I didnít have dry eye and had sleet in corners of my eyes, back to normal never thought I miss sleet in my eyes. I could also breathe correctly; the inflammation in left sinus had gone down. If I go off the Restasis the dry eye and inflamed sinus comes back.

By the way I had to tell the Doctors to put me on Resta$i$. I don't listen to the Doctors as much as I did in the past I have become a subject matter expert in my own right. I do not have to where RGP have 20/30,40ish vision without glasses and am very happy with it. Go to the best eye hospital in your region, mine is U of M Kellogg Eye Institute, and I am the first they have seen with Canadian PRK and Crosslinking. Itís a three story teaching eye hospital with many very good kc specialists on staff, but with that said I direct my care.

I really don't like RPG's, and I know if I got a pair I could see 20/20, the more irritation the more kc in my opinion.

If you get PRK your chances of getting Dry Eye is about 30% with a normal eye. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LASIK#Dry_eyes)

Many went abroad or across the US broader however since then there has been trails so people joined those sites. Now, since FDA approval, there are many places throughout the US.
