Emily, once they say (in their opinion) they have found the right contact lens for your son, if its not agreeable to your son in anyway, then take it from there. That way he will know what methodology they are/was using, otherwise he, you or any one of us will not get to know on this, and how difrerent it is to how it is at other locations. There are different opinions, schools of thought (old and new) and expertise.

Let us know how it goes, and what ever the result, I am sure nothing would have been lost, just gained.

Hi Everyone!

Please see below the attached on the post, its a contact lens course on dealing with complex prescriptions and surgical cases. There are many, many contact lenses out there, which goes to show there isn't one contact lens that fits all.

Remember also, this contact lenses course is for UK optometrists, and they should be available at all good contact lens practices, not just in the UK but also all good contact lens practices world wide, however depending on the location there could well be local manufactures that produce their own contact lens types, which maybe specific types of soft lenses for KC to RGP "hard" type contact lenses (mostly soft perm contact lenses, which is known the most, are produced by one major company these days, but this does not mean there arenít others out there (such as in the far-east or elsewhere)

Its a pretty good read ! However some parts may not be easily understood, although it does give a lay reader an overview and some background on the whole subject area (after all, we are close to the subject area the most!).

My best to you

Bobby

Emily has Dan tried minisclerals and semisclerals? Unlike conventional RGPs they rest on the sclera and vault over the cornea with significantly improved comfort. They do require several sittings to get the right fit.

6 months later - news is good

Dan just had his 6 month checkup after epi-on crosslinking.† The news is good.† The KC has not progressed, possibly vision is slightly better.† He sees well with a†hard contact lens, though he finds it not wonderfully comfortable.† He is seeing a optomotrist who specializes in KC contact fitting.† They are working well together.

Two days ago he also had the second, better eye, crosslinked.† For the first sixteen hours he†had a lot of pain.† Now he is better.†

His vision is now around 20/30, 20/25 with glasses.† So, this is encouraging.† While the future is not certain, so far, so good. I don't think too much about KC anymore.†

I am writing because I know that most people who have good outcomes tend to disappear from support groups.† I'm here just to let you know that things can go well.† I hope this story offers you some helpful encouragement.

Thanks for letting us know the good news with you son Emily...you and your son has acheived what you have set out to do when at the start the road was not clear...which makes it a major acheivement as its easy to stumble from one thing to the next, and when its impossible to get back the time which was lost.

Keep your eye "on the ball", and find the right contact lens and fit and hopfully then you can forget about KC, as much as one can under the circumstances of having this eye condition.

Well done indeed and please keep us posted as and when you feel you want to.
