Beth you really are a joker.
If I was in your country I could have identified what really the problem was, though you would have to take it to a workshop to fix it - thereby preventing being ripped off !!
'cv joints' or constant velocity joints are termed drive shafts here. They are wheel axle rods - 2 in number, one for the left another for the right - with turnable bearings inside connecting your engine - gearbox to the wheels.
This indicates that your vehicle is a front wheel drive because rear wheel drive's don't have turnable axles (unless it's a 4-wheel drive)
An easy way to find out whether it requires replacement - for either side - is turn your steering wheel fully to the desired side , lock it towards that side & spin you vehicle in a circle. If a ka -dak, ka -dak sound is heard while the vehicle moves in circles then it is a sure sign that the drive shafts should be replaced. People drive vehicles ignoring this sound while turning.
If not dealt with in a timely manner it could lead to breakage of the axle from the bearing & resultant breakdown for which you'll need a tow-truck to rescue you !! Again if the sound is less you can chose to ignore it until it becomes prominent.
yes well i need some, coz they make that noise eh. the left is worse, the right isn't so bad so hopefully i'll have enough money to get the left one done next week or the week after, and then i'll save for the other one.
