IS YOUR DOCTOR BEST? SHARE YOUR XP PLEASE!

HELLO EVERYONE.

I am writing to you with the hope to find any piece of good advice from the people undergone keratoconus and more or less cured from it.

Who has done the surgery (I refer to the patients with stages III and IV) and what techniques did the doctor use?
How many years have passed since the surgery and was it required another treatment after some time?
And least, but not last, where have you done the surgery and who has done it?

I live in Armenia and my brother has keratoconus on both eyes.
I want to find out the best option before any optical aid.

I will attach the topography results if needed.

Thank you in advance for your feedbacks.

Pretty_Lil Welcome,

Most people once they get their vision problems sorted out they go to live there lifes, but they leave their storys here in posts. Please read through them.

There is no push button way or a sure fire way to know what may be best for your brother in an instant. You need to way up the opinions, go to consultations, get tests done... you may need to travel etc etc.

Correction of vision, any one of the methods you choose, may mean you have avoided another pit fall that would have happen going another route, but contacts do have risks, and risks their pushersare not forth-comming abouty, and also you may not beable to wearthem all the time, thus putting a restriction on your brothers life.

Take Care

Bobby

Hi Bobby ,

Thanks for your words, will try to look through the other topics and posts.
However they seem to have long history, and as you know medical science is developing very rapidly, that's why i wanted some recent patients share with their experience.

The thing is that I am searching many doctors, and each of them has his techniques, and I need some one to orientate me.

Once again,
Thank you.

Hi Lilit, I just found out myself that Wellington eye Clinic in Ireland is doing Keraflex (a very new treatment that reshapoes the cornea with out taking anything away from the cornea). They also do limited topo PRK. I am not sure how far your willing to travel but wanted to pass this on to you.

Both treatments are combined with CXL as its the only thing shown to treat KC progression.

Best of luck

Remo

Dear Remo,

Great, thanks, I did some research already. I think this is also can be a really good option for my brother to consider.

However, I still need more advice from experienced people.

THanks for sharing the information.

Regards,
Lilit.

Well you can't get more experiened people than those who actually do the treatmet. So contact the centers you are interested in.

You must remember, no two KC eyes are the same, no two patient cases are the same either.

If you ask the clinic/s to put your in touch with the past patients, they may help you, but everyone is unique and thoughts and options can differ and the configurations of each and every KC cornea.

You may read the posts on limited topo PRK and reply to them, the topic starts do pop by from time to time.
