US Clinical Trials Accepting Patients

If anyone is interested, as of March 12, 2010  I have found two NIH clinical CXL trials that are currently open and are accepting patients:

Trial number  NCT01081561
CXL with and without Intacs – random on Intacs
Eye Surgery Center of Beverly Hills
Dr. Yaron S. Rabinowitz
Trial Coordinator

Cost per eye $3900

Washington DC
Trial Number NCT01024322
CXL for all patients
Washington Eye Physicians and Surgeons
Dr. Roy S. Rubinfeld
Trial Coordinator
Jennifer Forst
Cost per eye $4,000

Trial number (same as above) NCT01024322
Chicago Cornea Consultants
Dr. Parag A. Majmudar
Trial Coordinator
Jim Nykaza
(847) 882-5900
Cost per eye $3,000

I’ll post more as I learn more.

Thanks for the information Mark.  One thing I don't understand though is the cost?  I was under the thinking that if you are participating in a clinical study, there is no cost to you?

Could you explain?

How successful have US patients been in getting their insurance to cover the costs?

I had my right eye done in Chicago with Chicago Cornea Consultants. I am about ten days out and am very happy with my results! As far as I know, insurance will not cover anything that is not approved by the FDA which means that insurance will not cover crosslinking until it is no longer a clinical trial.
