9 month after cxl/keraflex, done in May/June 2011 in Cottbus Germany my son (14), i can say the treatment wasn't successfull. The crosslinking wasn't stable. I know from other patients in Germany, which were unhappy with their treatment, too. 5000 Eur for nothing. (a trial )

Spotix,

Sorry to hear of your story.

Was both the Keraflex and crosslinking done on the same day ?

From what I know its better that the crosslinking be done one week later AND the time duration may matter (there is Avedros rapid 3 min crosslinking) but also the orginal and the newer 10 mins AXL from IROC.

Wellington eye clinic in Dublin has been getting good results by getting the facts right and selecting the right treatment for the patient.

When intacs or limited PRK and other correction methods has been ruled out, it does not leave much else (this may be the case, more so, for those who are young in age).

Hi Spotix,

Did the progression at least slow down? Unfortunately, keratoconus tends to progress very rapidly when diagnosed in the early teens. It seems unlikely that 3 minutes of epi-on CXL would be enough to stop such aggressive progression. In Budapest we have observed a number of cases where progression continued even after 30 minutes of traditional epi-off CXL.

There is the factor that young eyes has progression which is more aggressive due to the age of the patient, where this is often observed and is the focus in this is age group, then any other age when progression is the subject in Keratoconus.

Therefore at this time, the only real way to treat youngsters is by using the longest proven orginal way of doing crosslinking, which is the epi off 30 mins crosslinking for those of which who are in the younger age group, where there is treatment decisions to be made due to the age of the patient.

However, even a precentage, progression may not stop but may slow...again youngesters may be affected more by this, but crosslinking may have done well to avoid progression "getting out of hand", and to a transplant.

Spotix, I hope you have been given other options (KC soft lenses ?) for until he (your son) gets to an age to be able to decide for himself, on what he would like to opt for if he is a candidate.
