Hi, I am interrested in the KXL process, as I understood there is some degree of "rise" from the edge of the "beamdevice" Is this ring like thing inside the optical zone?

Another question: according to eye doctors I have some small kc bulge in the cornea which results in quite alot glare and ghosting, in a otherwise "perfect" eye (i achieve 20/20 with glasses. Would KXL be suitable for a "small" issue like that, or is KXL still a bit too crude for dealing with such stuff?

Is the energy induced able to normalize/transform minor irregularities, or will it more be like a push down of existing form. From the orbscans i studied it seems a little hard for a layman like me to understand how predicatable the outcome is.

Hiya,

not sure what you mean about a 'rise'.  Please explain.  I have performed keraflex on pts with ghosting and it seems to work well.  To be honest, i try not to offer such treatments to patients who correct with spectacles only as we have more experience in moderate to advanced disease.

Hope this helps

Hi I mean my cone on my better eye is rather small and the main reason why i have ghosting/glares is a small fold in the cornea.

I am interested how precise KXL is at the moment. Did your patients experience less ghosting and glares?

Hi Zenke,

Still not sure about a 'small fold in the cornea'.  Not heard this term before.  The ghosting is likely to be due to astigmatism.

The accuracy of keraflex depends on your glasses prescription and nature of KC.  It can be very accurate, but all my patients have been very happy with the rerfractive outcome.  i have undertaken keraflex for a few patients for ghosting.  This has completly gone after treatment.

also, just to point out KXL is accelerated crosslinking which is different to keraflex!!

Hi thanks for answers, I have this long lightning going downwards, but if I just block some little part (lower left part) of my cornea all that lightning and ghostning disappears. To me this suggest some "servere" but rather small irregulatity, since my overall vision is good.

A question, is the crosslinking that is part of keraflex procedure done epi on or off?

Is there any more orbscans from keraflex procedures available?

Thanks for help

Br Henrik

Thanks

In terms of epi on and epi off.  I do not believe that at the moment that epi on is worth while as it is very ineffective.  Different surgeons will differ with this but the science is clear, Riboflavin doesnt penetrate through the corneal epithelium so the effect is minimal.  This said, Avedro have developed a drop that does penetrate the epithelium and this has been studied in experimental aniamls and clearly works.

They will release this is september.

In terms of data, I have asked avedro to make there 2 year data available.  the problem is that publication in peer review journals can take over 18 months to be printed.

I'll let you know when this is available
