Topo PRK and X Linking with Dr. K
Permalink

Hello all,
I am trying to do as much research as I can on all the possible surgical procedures for KC.  If anybody in this forum has had this procedure with Dr. K or has information on this procedure please post.  Any posts on results positive or negative would be greatly appreciated.  I need to get my vision to 20/70 without correction for my local fire department to accept me.  I am currently disqualifed due to pro uncorrected vision.   I am 20/80 in the left eye and 20/200 in my right eye.
thank you all and happy holidays,
bbrunsell

Well, I've had this procedure. You are definitely going to have the vision you want in your left eye, I am not sure about your right one. To be honest, I think that noone can answer this question. Each person's eyes react in a different way to the procedure, so you can't tell from the beginning. Ofcourse my dr should have some statistics, so he is the one you should ask if you want a more accurate answer.
Cheers

Hello Lars,
Thank you for the response. How long ago did you have the procedure done? Do you remember what your vision was before? And your vision now? I heard Dr. K also has an office in New York, do you if he does these procedures in the united states? I am from California so it would be much easier for me to get to New York.
thanks again,
Brett

I had the procedure 1.5 years before. I don't remember my exact vision before the procedure but I had less than 50% with soft toric lenses in both eyes, this is why I decided to do the prk. Now, my vision is 70-80% in both eyes with glasses, I don't remember my UCVA results, I don't really care about seeing without glasses, I suppose it is still less than 50% but much better than before. I think that it depends on how bad your vision is pre-op.
As for the NY office of dr. K. I am not 100% sure but I believe that the doctor is 95% of the time in Greece, so I don't know whether he performs the procedure in the US.
Best,
Lars
