Boxer Wachler epi on C3-R treatment
Permalink

My Girlfriend who has mild to moderate KC is thinking about getting her c3-r treatment done by Boxer Wachler located in los angeles. He performs C3-R without epithelial removal. Has anyone gone through this type of treatment and found it to be effective or non-effective? Please let me know

I personally would go for the epi-off procedure. Quite painless and pretty much 100% edffective for stopping progression. At worst case vision may fluctuate for few months but once it settles u know what u have is a for a lifetime. I do not know much about clinics in the states but i know u can contact dr.stein here in toronto at the bochner eye institute.

Your post is a bit old, so I'm wondering if your girl friend had the treatment done.  I'm thinking of going to the same doctor, so would like to know the outcome.  I had one intact placed in one eye, which did not go well, so I'm very reluctant to try stuff that might further degrade my vision.

I've been to Dr. Boxer-Wachler and had this procedure done.  I think it works, but the questions is "for how long?".  I haven't had any KC progression, according to my regular opthalmologist.  I had the procedure done about 4 years ago.  From what I have heard, the epi-off method has produced more promising results.  At this point, that is maybe what I would lean towards.  I don't know of a lot of US doctors performing the procedure, though.

Thanks for the info, Ryan.  With the epi-on method, did you have any vision fluctuations  that they describe with the epi-off method?  I email Dr. Boxer-Wachler's office and asked about this and several other concerns, but they didn't answer that question.
