New Patch Surgery for type IV Keratoconus
Permalink

Dear friends I want to share with you the progress we are performing on a NEW TYPE of SURGERY for KC. TYPE IV.
First case has been operated monday this week,it is not an easy and fast operation ,but we schould get interesting results in those Kc. type IV for whom corneal transplants is by the generality of colleagues suggested as the final and only possibility.
I wish the patient the best luck!
The new tecnique wants to achieve the following results.
1)To preserve the cornea of the patient
2)To improve the thickness through his "Double Implosive Effect"
3)To flatten the corneal ectasia due to Kc.
4)To use the patch as a "non patient tissue" usefull to perform further laser ametropia correction.
I shall give you further news as soon as they will came available:
For the moment after the first "unconfortable night" ,the day after, the situation seems to improve both for comfort and for initial, but not yet, usefull sight.
I will ask to the patient to enter in this Forum and give his personal experience and advice directly to all you.
Please send to the patient first and to me a hot "Good Luck"!
Good night to all you.

Dear Prof. Lombardi,

I also wish you and the patient best luck!

Keep on doing excellent work... I wish you that this new method will also be another top technique that will help many of your patients.

A member of our German forum asked what you mean by "Double Implosive Effect"?

Do you have a more detailled explanation of this method? There is much interest in this technique.

best regards
Norbert

Hi Norbert forgive me for the long time of absence from the Forum, virus on my computers has caused it.
The "double implosive effect" is reached by 1) the normal implosive effect of ARKminiARK
2) the stiched patch on the patient Kc cornea will compress gently his cornea improving the implosive previous effect of the corneal radial incisions.
