Hello.

Welcome to the forum.

First of all,you must know that anybody with keratoconus should have undergone crosslinking. With the collagen crosslinking you will maintain your cornea and treat the stroma bed thinning and other biomechanical weaknesses that your cornea has because of the kc.

Second, you are thinking of Ferrara rings and Intacs and the reason is to improve your vision, meaning to try to treat the symptoms of the Kc vision.

In my opinion, i think the Intacs is more accepted by Doctors worldwide. Many people and doctors consider crosslinking and Intacs a standard treatment nowadays for keratoconus. From the results i have seen in the internet and the patients in this forum the results are pretty good.Visit the www.irocmedical.com and an experienced doctor in Intacs http://www.boxerwachler.com.He has perfomed many Intacs procedures and he is very experienced you might say.

But with the Intacs you dont get a permanent treatment.I think that every two years you need to change them.I am not sure though because i havent speak with any doctor about intacs.I have performed collagen crosslinking and in order to treat the refractive errors of keratoconus i performed a limited topography guided PRK.With this treatment you see better than any other choices you select. The reason of that is that you give the proper shape that your cornea should have.

Anyway, thinking of going to Switzerland for Intacs is great. If i havent found my doctor which is performing this unique treatment,i would have gone also in Switzerland for Intacs too.I have heard that Swiss doctors now are performing Topography guided PRK but i cant find it anywhere at the internet. They have worked with my doctor on this treatment.

Moreover,i read yeasterday and i want to advise you that with the placement of Intacs people are rubbing more their eyes. This is absolutely a BIG NO.Dont rub your eyes for NO REASON.Ask also your doctor.

I cant say much for the Ferrara rings because i havent read anything or speak with someone who has performed this treatment.hmm.gif

All the best,

Thank you for the detailed reply. It will set me on the right pass. It is very important to me because I really can't handle RGP lenses and it is affecting my proffessionally.

Frankly I haven't found or been able to get in touch with any KC specialists in Switzerland. Every so-called KC specialist I called sounded unfamiliar with Intacs.

I'm going to look into all the information you have given me. Hopefully, sooner than later I will have this resolved.

Thanks again,

Bram

Hello Bram.

Where do you come from?Doctor Boxler Wascler is a specialist in the placement of Intacs. Also,in Italy i think Doctor Pinelli is performing Intacs too.

It depends on the location you are and if you want to travel.Personally i would go anywhere in the world for my eyes.

Furthermore my friend you said that your hard contact lenses dont fit you anymore.Have you performed CROSSLINKING?That is the first thing that you should do in order to put easy SOFT CONTACT LENSES aftwerwards. With the crosslinking your cornea will flat at some point.I r know how much it will flat, but certainly it will flat. So,then it is easier to put a contact lense.

Also, try to find some high index aspheric glasses. This is specially made for irregular corneas and astigmatism. It provides very good vision.

So,you should get Crosslinking first.Ask any doctor which has up to date knoweldge to keratoconus.

As i told you before if you want an Holistic treatment and a cure of kc,my doctor,Doctor Kanellopoulos has in my opinion the best treatment for kc now.Meaning collagen crosslinking and limited topography guided PRK.I dont wear anything such as contacts or glasses and i can drive at night easily and do whatever a normal person does.

In my opinion, CROSSLINKING is the first thing that you should do.Dont delay my friend because you need to have a certain thickness at your cornea in order to perform the treatment.

Intacs or Ferrara rings are improving your vision BUT they dont stop the progression of keratoconus.Crosslinking does that and improves slightly your vision.

All the best,

Dear Zeus,

I am from The Netherlands and I currently live in Switzerland. I can travel around Europe/UK or even to the US. But I would rather find something as locally as possible. I'm just concerned about followup appointments and complications(if there are any). I can't imagine buying a last minute plane ticket to see a Dr. countires away.

However, I am sick of KC and RGP contacts just don't do it. I'm going to look into crosslinking. I have allergies, so I tend to rub my eyes(even though I'm sure I could get over that habit), which puts intacs a little behind the list. Besides if I can stop the progression of the KC with crosslinking thats already going to help me sleep easier at night.

Where is Doctor Kanellopoulos? The treatement you have undergone sound very promising.

Cheers,

Bram

Hello Bram again,

My uncle is living and working in Netherlands at the European Pattent Office.Anyway, yes you must and i say it again you must do collagen crosslinking my friend as i have mentioned before.Ask all the guys in here.Everybody with keratoconus they have performed it.In all the keratoconus patients the disease has stop with 6 years results. Is that amazing or what???

I have performed Crosslinking and in order to improve my vision also i performed a limited topography PRK.This treatment is specially made for keratoconus and post lasik ectasia patients. You can ask also Swiss doctors to tell you more about Doctor Kanellopoulos. Why dont you visit the IROC CENTER?I think it is great move to do that.

I come from Greece.Doctor Kanellopoulos practise at New York Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital but most of the time is here in Greece with his institute. It is called laservision.Visit www.laservision.gr and in the section where it says VIDEOS you will find and watch the video about the Holistic treatment of keratoconus.I was a candidate for this treatment and now i function without contacts or glasses. But i had less than 5 degrees of astigmatism. If you are able to travel my friend here in Greece it is certainly a best choice for your eyes. Also,Cloudd an another member of this forum came here and perform the treatment. He is from Canada.

Its really great that my country has to show this scientist with something unique among the world.I am very proud of him and i have no words for that my friend because i have 20/20 vision with both eyes despite having kc.People definetely should know this option for keratoconus. With the CROSSLINKING YOU STOP THE DISEASE AND THE TOPOGRAPHY GUIDED PRK YOU ARE CORRECTING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE YOUR VISION.And that is fantastic.

All the best,
